PRIVACY
POLICY.
Last updated 28 October 2026
This policy explains how The Observatory handles personal information when you visit theobservatory.je, book a call or get in touch. We are a creative agency based in Jersey, Channel Islands, working with clients in Jersey, the United Kingdom and beyond. We collect as little as we can, we never sell it and we only use it for the reasons below.
01 Who we are
The Observatory, Jersey, Channel Islands, is responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach us at studio@theobservatory.je.
02 The law we follow
We follow the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018. When we work with people in the United Kingdom, we also follow the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
03 What we collect
When you contact us by email, WhatsApp or phone: your name, contact details and whatever you choose to tell us.
When you book a call: your name, email address, the time you choose and any notes you add. Bookings are handled by Calendly.
When you browse the site: only if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics records how the site is used, such as the pages you visit, your type of device and your rough location, with your IP address shortened. If you say no, it does not load.
Like every website, our host (GitHub Pages) and our font provider (Adobe Fonts) receive basic technical details, such as your IP address and browser, so they can deliver the page to you.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
04 How we use it
To reply to you and talk about working together, because it is in our legitimate interests and yours.
To deliver work for our clients, under our contract with them.
To understand and improve the website, with your consent.
To keep the business, tax and accounting records the law requires.
We will not send you marketing emails unless you ask us to.
05 Who we share it with
Only the services that help us run the studio: Google (email and analytics), Calendly (call booking), WhatsApp (messages), GitHub (website hosting) and Adobe (fonts). Some of them are based outside Jersey and the United Kingdom, including in the United States, and protect information with recognised safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses. We never sell your information.
06 How long we keep it
Enquiries and call bookings: up to two years after we were last in touch, unless we start working together.
Client records: for as long as the work needs, and then for as long as the law requires us to keep business and accounting records.
Analytics: up to 14 months, then deleted automatically.
07 Cookies
A small setting saved in your browser remembers your cookie choice. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings in the footer of every page.
08 Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, limit or object to how we use it, take a copy with you, or withdraw your consent. Email us and we will respond within four weeks. There is no charge.
09 Concerns and complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first at studio@theobservatory.je. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and do our best to put things right.
10 Changes
If we change this policy, we will update it here and change the date at the top.
